KHARTOUM, May 30 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) has finished the biannual inspection of the operational readiness of two Chinese engineering camps in the mission area.

The UNAMID inspection, carried out from May 14 to May 28, focused on the equipment of the 15th Chinese peacekeeping engineering company to Darfur in Sudan in three areas of responsibility.

The inspection team was briefed on the work of the Chinese peacekeeping company before a systematic check on more than 240,000 items including vehicles, weapons, ammunition, accommodation, communications equipment, medical apparatus and welfare facilities.

In preparation for the UN equipment inspection, which is usually conducted every six months, the Chinese engineering contingent repaired 35 machines in a complete overhaul of all equipment.

The first Chinese peacekeeping engineering contingent was sent to Sudan's Darfur in October 2007.
