SYDNEY, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Work has stopped at an outback mine in the Australian State of Queensland after a worker was killed and a number of others injured in an underground vehicle collision on Wednesday afternoon.

The man was driving a grader which crashed into a personnel carrier at the Moranbah North coal mine in central Queensland.

Mine operator, Anglo American, said in a statement that 10 people who were in the personnel carrier were treated for head, neck and facial injuries and four were treated for possible spinal impairments, while two were flown to a nearby hospital for further assessment.

No cause is yet clear, the company said, and investigations will be carried out.

"Our focus is on continuing to respond to the emergency situation, including the treatment and care of injured employees and supporting the affected families and colleagues," they said.

The incident has been referred to the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy.
