ALGIERS, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Algerian Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel said on Monday that a tripartite meeting with Egypt and Tunisia will be held in Cairo later this month to discuss the development in war-torn Libya, state radio channel I reported.

The last tripartite meeting on Libya was held in Algiers in May 2018, when the three Arab countries agreed to continue supporting the implementation of the UN peace plan and the need to create adequate conditions to overcome the political stalemate in Libya.

These meetings are part of the periodic consultation between the three countries to help neighboring Libya end its civil war, which has plagued the country for seven years.

Since the fall of Libyan former leader Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011, militants have been gaining ground for lack of a unified army and security services.

Several armed militias of different backgrounds emerge in Libya to fight for power, even after a peace deal signed by the warring parties in December 2015 in the Moroccan city of Skhirat.
