SEOUL, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chung Eui-yong, top national security advisor for South Korean President Moon Jae-in, on Tuesday expressed anticipation for the resumed negotiations between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States in the near future.

Chung made the remarks during a parliamentary committee meeting for the presidential Blue House, saying both the DPRK and the United States had a firm willingness toward talks about the denuclearized Korean Peninsula.

He said current situations were different from the past as top DPRK leader Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump had strong wills to implement their agreement reached after their first summit in Singapore on June 12.

His comments came after the cancelled visit by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to the DPRK, originally slated for this week.

Chung said negotiations were underway between Pyongyang and Washington over the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, which he called a very important and difficult issue to resolve.

In the course of negotiations, many situations could emerge, Chung noted, adding that certain contractions could be inevitable in the initial phase of negotiations.
