The region's gross domestic product totaled 1.09 trillion yuan (about 171 billion U.S. dollars) in 2017, Shohrat Zakir, chairman of the Xinjiang regional government, said Thursday in a government work report at the ongoing local parliamentary session.

Noticeably, Xinjiang saw 20 percent annual growth in its fixed-asset investment and the foreign trade expanded 19.9 percent year on year.

In 2017, the region's per capita disposable income maintained rapid growth. The urban and rural per capita disposable income reached 30,775 yuan and 11,045 yuan, respectively, up 10.1 percent and 9.9 percent in real terms.

Xinjiang's economy is expected to grow 7 percent year on year in 2018 with the per capita disposable income to go up 8.5 percent, said Shohrat Zakir.
